Championship Manager is, in terms of footie management games, a household name. It all started with this very game back in 1992. Championship Manager, originally released for the Amiga, was eventually converted to the PC, and it made huge success on both platforms. Of course, comparing it to its successors may be a bit harsh, but it`s nevertheless a fact that this game turns out a bit shallow compared to e.g. the more recent CM3.

For those who haven`t played a CM game before, you might be interested in knowing that it contains no graphics whatsoever. The graphical content consists solely of text boxes, tables and statistics. It`s a management game, which means that you don`t actually control your players during matches, but you`re in charge of choosing the starting lineup, tactics and in-game decisions.

The game features all the most important British competitions, and the database includes 1500 players, 80 league teams, 380 non-league and European teams and 650 managers, coaches, scouts and physios.

When matches aren`t played, you can purchase or sell your players and trim your squad to suit your needs. The game follows the season day-by-day, and after you`ve completed your actions for a specific day (or midweek/weekend to be more precise), you press Done, and the game progresses in time.

It`s a milestone game in computer history as the first really successful football managerial game.
